Arend has been a philosopher since he was 11 year old. Somehow, the questions young ‘grasshopper’ asked to his Shaolin Masters in the TV series ‘Kung Fu’ were also the questions he has been trying to answer ever since. As a business man, entrepreneur. he worked all over the world in oil and gas operations on all operational levels; operator, foreman, loading master, marine superintendent, terminal manager and CEO. Only in his later years he decided to study Business Ethics and Social Responsibility in the context of health, safety and environment. He created the think tree Sustenance4all that focuses on information theory, systems sciences and cybernetics, because he felt that our global risks and crises can be solved by science and commons sense. He created the ‘Realimiteit Theory’ and proposes sustainable and adaptive governance to replace non-functional democracies he coined ‘Noticracy’ based on rule by information. He assists Globethics Academy in Geneva to teach an online course on Cyber Ethics. The question is not; Is it sustainable, but can what people create function without becoming harmful?

Michiel is a researcher and historian in heart and soul. The question ‘what is truth?’ and ‘where do I stand and fit in?’ fascinates him from his early childhood where he tried to find answers in books and by observing nature and people. He managed to acquire more pieces of the puzzle during his study of economic history and personal development. He completed this phase of development and learning in Hanoi, Vietnam whilst investigating the dynamics of the Vietnamese private sector. With special focus on the influence of three consecutive wars in one century on the vitality and resiliency of the Vietnamese people. After his study, he worked 20 years as an economic diplomat, strategist and project lead. He learned from his work in big organisations and how to encounter systemic issues which blocks growth, well-being and embodiment.
It was during this time, he found step-by-step his grounding by combining his deep analytical skills with a spiritual and holistic view of life. This starts by taking full responsibility for your own life, health and actions (which inevitably causes re-actions). In professional and personal life he applies concepts like ‘trail&error’ and ‘best facts available’, part of the sustenance4all approach as well, just as the ability to see the story behind the story and expose hidden motives.
Currently, he is a team trainer and writer, feeler and thinker on historical and contemporary topics. Discovering and advocating the solidness of the sustenance4all philosophy in conjunction with his own life experience strengthens his mission to make people aware of their own infinite potential, and the threat of toxic illusions and seductions. To make the pieces fit.
Michiel is a practising musician in band projects.
